NEW YORK (AP) - Lady Gaga last week sold more than 1.1 million copies of his new album "Born This Way" with the help of Amazon. com. Billboard announced on Tuesday that "Born This Way" became the 17th album that sold a million copies or more in its first week since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
It is also the best selling digital release, with 662,000 downloads. The album gave first Gaga Lady number one on the Billboard 200 and had the highest sales in a week since 2005. The flamboyant pop singer is the fifth woman with an album that sold a million copies since SoundScan there.
Sixty percent of sales were digital, thanks to a campaign of online retailer Amazon. com. Amazon sell a digital version of the album for 99 cents on Tuesday and Thursday and sold more than 440,000 digital copies.
