Only a few months ago was diagnosed with lung cancer (the band went public in March) and today we heard the sad news that Gerard Smith, bassist TV on the Radio, has been unable to disease and died with only 36 years old. Gerard Smith joined the band in Brooklyn in 2005 and participated in their last three albums, Return to Cookie Mountain, Dear Science and Nine Types of Light, just published last week.
It was during the recording of this album when she was diagnosed with the dreaded disease and had since been withdrawn for further treatment so as not go out on tour with them. On the website of the band have announced they will cancel all concerts in the United States until April 26 and released this little statement: We join in this sadness.
A loss is always painful, but when someone so young leaves us think what is more important.
