.- More than a dozen artists as varied as the youngest son of John Lennon, Sean, the saxophonist John Zorn and Sonic Youth's legendary offered together a concert in New York to raise funds to benefit victims of the earthquake and tsunami suffered Japan last week. The event, to be held in the Miller Theater in Manhattan on March 27 and for which in just a few hours have been sold out, will also feature the singer Mike Patton, former lead singer of Faith No More.
"The tragedy and devastation is really overwhelming, "he said in a statement the legendary saxophonist Jonh Zorn, promoter of this concert, also involving Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon. Their son, Sean Lennon, will be one of the participants, with the trio Mephista (Susie Ibarra, Sylvie Courvoisier and Ikue Mori), guitarist Marc Ribot, pianist and jazz composer Uri Caine, the Japanese duo Cibo Matto indie ( Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori) and the Aleph Trio, the trio of Zorn.
"I've always felt a strong personal connection with Japan and the truth is that I'm happy to do something to help. I hope it's a great night, "said the latter musician. Both artists and the Miller Theatre itself, part of the campus of Columbia University in Manhattan, will donate all the proceeds that night to the fund created by the Japanese Society of America, based in New York, to provide funds to help victims of the catastrophe on 11 March he suffered the Asian country.
