The bassist of the rock band Alice In Chains, Mike Starr, and star of reality show Celebrity various addictions rehabilitation Rehabfue found dead yesterday in Salt Lake City, authorities said Wednesday. Starr, 44, had left the band in the mid-90, and was known recently for his role in a television program where he described his fight against his addiction to heroin.

In a joint statement published on the website of the band, guitarist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney lamented the death of his bandmate.
"Jerry and Sean mourn the death of our friend and ask that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Starr family," they said. Dr. Drew Pinsky, producer of the television program where Starr was involved and had overseen the rehabilitation treatment of musician since 2009 was "devastated" by the news.
"We are devastated to hear that Mike Starr has succumbed to his illness. It is very sad. Our prayers are with his family," Pinsky said in its Twitter. Nikki Sixx, the Motley Crue band of heavy also lamented the death of the music also on Twitter. "Rest in peace Mike Starr. Another soldier fallen because of the addiction .." said Sixx.
On February 18 Starr was arrested for possession of controlled substances in Utah. It is not the first time that Alice in Chains suffered the ravages of drugs, singer Layne Staley died in 2002 from an overdose of "speedball" (a mixture of heroin and cocaine). The band Alice in Chains formed in Seattle in 1987, was one of the leading exponents of "grunge", along with Pearl Jam, Mudhoney or Nirvana, and sold during the 90's over 25 million records.
