Shakira is named after his illustrious visitor recital in Asuncion

The Colombian singer Shakira was named distinguished visitors from Asuncion after the massive concert that featured the Paraguayan capital Tuesday as part of his tour of Latin America, local media reported today. "The Municipal Board (Mayor of Asunción) decided to award the distinction of distinguished visitors from the city to the artist Shakira, founder and president of the foundation 'Pies Descalzos'" ABC Color newspaper announced on its website.

Director of External Relations and Cooperation of the Municipality, Miriam Rivas, "made the necessary arrangements for delivery" of the distinction to the Colombian, who on Thursday will give a recital in Santiago, told the newspaper. Shakira was presented at the Jockey Club (Racetrack) before more than 40,000 spectators in his only recital in this country, according to press Asuncion.

The show, which was not allowed access to reporters and photographers from international media, including the performances by Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley's band The Authentic Decanter Argentina and local Los Rumberos. Paraguayan Police said about 500 officers mobilized to protect the surroundings of the Jockey Club.

Tickets for the event were sold at prices ranging between 22 and 390 dollars.
