Havana, March 17 (DPA) - Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez went today to the Dominican Republic, where it will offer a concert and receive a prize of a local association of journalists in his first international event so far this year. "It's a special time to reconnect with these people who both know our music and admires Cuban music," said Rodriguez, who traveled with his wife and clarinetist, Niurka González, Trovarroco Trio and drummer Oliver Valdés. The author of songs like "Unicorn" and "hope" will give a concert Saturday night in the Dominican city of Santiago de los Caballeros and receive on Tuesday in Santo Domingo International Casandra Award, given annually by the Dominican Association of Writers Art (Acroarte).
The distinction is a tribute to the career of a troubadour and has been given above including the Colombian Juanes, Marc Anthony and Paulina Rubio. "It's a great pleasure for our organization to honor who has long been his songs and his music is not only our country, but almost the entire world, waking up behind a huge following, "said President Acroarte, Feliz Vinicio Lora, quoted by Cuban media.
