MERIDA, March 18, 2011 (AFP) - Colombian pop star Shakira will offer a free concert in the sleepy Mexican city of Merida, with coasts on the Caribbean, the government of that town. The cost of the concert on July 16 -1.4 million dollars, will be financed by private companies, said the mayor of Merida, Angelica Araujo, on Thursday night.
Merida, Yucatan state capital to 1,300 km east of Mexico City, has stayed away from violence stemming from drug trafficking that affects a large part of Mexico.
