Mike Mangini is the new drummer for Dream Theater

The situation has been truly bizarre within Dream Theater since it came out of Mike Portnoy last September. During these months we lived auditions, nasty exchange of accusations and many rumors about the identity of the new drummer in the legendary progressive metal band, but the crisis appears finally closed.

Mike Mangini replace its namesake, as announced today the U.S. pool. Mangini was born in 1968 in Massachusetts, and has since made a living by providing their expertise with the battery people like Annihilator, Extreme, Steve Vai and James LaBrie, lead singer of Dream Theater and assume that great defender of his signing.

Among his merits are five world speed records on drums, unequivocal proof of their technical capacity in this crucial instrument in the genre. But we know that replacing Portnoy is much more than provide skills with the sticks. Will it be able to cover also the creative gap left it in training? The excited declarations of his new teammates to raise awareness of the signing suggest so, but will play waiting for the launch of the new disc to determine to what extent this change is crucial.

Supposedly come from throughout the year. To make the matter even more morbid, Dream Theater a few days ago announced the launch of a documentary by Over The Edge Productions, reflecting the process of selecting a new battery. Was it really necessary to publish such a movement? In addition to Mangini, in this story we see the auditions for the other five candidates who entered the pools: Aquiles Priester, Peter Wilder, Virgil Donati, Derek Roddy, Thomas Lang.

You can keep an eye on the first delivery of the video below and follow the rest of the profile of Roadrunner Records.
