Mastodon - Live At The Aragon: a live by the mere fact that he played

No pulse trembles when he wrote that, in my opinion, Mastodon are the largest group in the form of actual metal. His last three albums are comfortably among the best of the genre during the last decade, and little to maintain the level during the coming years, may end up building a discography of scandal, at the height of the largest (if not already .) Little or nothing can be criticized for his career in the study.

Live, unfortunately, things change much with them. A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to see them for the first time in Barcelona Sonisphere and left me quite cold, then I realized that the group loses a lot with the fantastic live. The tare is common in groups that are committed as complex studio recordings and worked, but in the case of Atlanta on I found most significant downturn than usual.

Despite the passage of a live album out is inevitable in any group, at least when his career gets extended a few years, and Live At The Aragon arrives to meet the ballot. And is that twelve-year career and four LPs already published, you are bound by mere respect for tradition to launch a job of this type, weight at how bad it can give you the live sound.

It touched a debt to settle with the fans, and have done so. Mastodon - Oblivion (YouTube) What I squeaked in turn direct the Mastodon was the vocal work of Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds especially, light years of recordings comfortably worked in the studio. This scourge is particularly evident in Live At The Aragon, and certainly makes the most weakness.

Where if I noticed a big change from what I witnessed a couple of years ago in Barcelona, is in the instrumental section, much more done here and at certain points almost carbon copy of what we hear on their albums. I also have to be fair and admit that once I saw outdoor format that does not usually sit well with the sound of cutting complex groups, while this recording was made in a safe room with better acoustics, the which manages to do greater justice to his compositions.

But here comes the big shock, because much of this live performance consists of songs that sound almost like the original in the instrumental part, but instead have a much lower voices. Thus the first half of it becomes a gas medium adaptation of his masterful Crack The Skye, fluently played an absolutely flawless (almost as much that do not add much to the recordings already known), but with a huge difference in the sung.

Mastodon - Ghost of Karelia (YouTube) Notwithstanding the foregoing, such is the level of the songs from this group, it is difficult not to enjoy Live at the Aragon. Since it was recorded during the tour to promote his latest album, it has most of the role, the others being represented almost testimonial to one or two songs.

Complete the short setlist a version of 'The Bit' by Melvins quite well run. As is customary in the American quartet, the DVD edition comes dressed with a very elegant presentation and some details in the form of merchandising to encourage their purchase. There will thus be a direct memory, and shine among the best that has borne Mastodon, but I think that the debt has been repaid.

After that, we can focus our attention on his new album, first in many personal list of most anticipated at this time.
